The Christian Education Board oversees the Church School, the Vacation Church School, Confirmation instruction, the various children and youth fellowship programs, and education projects, and proposes and implements changes to the Christian Education programs for children and youth in the church.
The Consistory sets policy for the congregation and transacts the monthly business of the Congregation. It is the custodian of all congregational records and reports to the congregation at its annual and special meetings. All acts and deliberations of the Consistory are subject to the will of and revision by the Congregation. The Consistory has fifteen members with the Pastors as ex-officio member with voice but no vote. Consistory members are elected by a majority vote cast at the Fall Congregation meeting. The officers of the Consistory and the Congregation are the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Consistory oversees the work of the Financial Secretary, and appoints a nominating committee to fill any vacancies on the Consistory and Church boards.
The Deacons are responsible, in cooperation with the pastors of the church, for deepening the care giving ministries of Evangelical Church to its most needy members. The Deacons recruit volunteers to conduct personal visits, make telephone calls, write notes, and organize expressions of care to those in need. They help keep the pastors updated on particular pastoral concerns encountered in their care giving ministries. They inform and educates the congregation about this ministry. The Deacons and the pastors have quarterly meetings for the purpose of training and exchanging information.
The Finance Committee or advises the Consistory about the financial management of the church. This Committee requests budget recommendations from all boards and committees in order to prepare the annual budget. It submits the church budget to the Consistory for action and to the membership of the church for approval at the January Annual Meeting. This Committee is responsible for budget items that are not specifically the responsibility of other boards. This Committee provides for an annual audit of the financial accounts of the Church, and additional audits as necessary.
The Membership/Evangelism Board is responsible for events and programs relating to the membership of the congregation, including, but not limited to, recruitment of new members and nurturing the devotion of all members. This board also welcomes newcomers to the community, coordinates adult fellowship and establishes services for persons with special needs.
The Mission Board oversees, promotes, and witnesses about events and programs relating to the wider mission of the church, including the work of the Illinois South Conference and the United Church of Christ as well as other special mission projects.
The Memorial and Bequest Board accounts for and reports all moneys and/or other gifts given to the church as memorials or bequests and acknowledge those gifts to the family and/or donor. It attempts to determine the intent of such gifts and makes appropriate recommendations to the Consistory to insure that all gifts are used as intended. This board also encourages members and friends of the church to remember the church with memorials at the time of death and in their wills.
The Pastoral Relations Committee supports and maintains an open relationship between the ordained ministers and members of the congregation. It helps the pastors and members of the church share ideas, hopes, dreams, and interpretations of mission. It lets the pastors know what people in the church are thinking. It gives a framework for dealing with conflict creatively. The Committee consists of the current Consistory officers and the three most recent past presidents of the congregation.
The Property Board oversees and cares for the church buildings and grounds, and addresses its property insurance needs.
The Stewardship Board is responsible for the ongoing annual financial stewardship program of the Church.
The Wee Care Day Care/Peppermint Preschool Board oversees the management, sets policies, and recommends facility improvements for the Wee Care Day Care Center and Peppermint Preschool. These facilities seek to provide Christian daytime care for young children throughout the greater community.
The Worship Board oversees matters relating to the church’s services of worship, including ushering, decorations, the Sacraments, and patterns of worship, as well as shared worship with other churches in the area.
