The Christian Education Board oversees the Church School,
the Vacation Church School, Confirmation instruction, the
various children and youth fellowship programs, and education
projects, and proposes and implements changes to the Christian
Education programs for children and youth in the church.
The Consistory sets policy for the congregation and
transacts the monthly business of the Congregation. It is the
custodian of all congregational records and reports to the
congregation at its annual and special meetings. All acts and
deliberations of the Consistory are subject to the will of and
revision by the Congregation. The Consistory has fifteen
members with the Pastors as ex-officio member with voice but
no vote. Consistory members are elected by a majority vote
cast at the Fall Congregation meeting. The officers of the
Consistory and the Congregation are the President, Vice
President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Consistory oversees
the work of the Financial Secretary, and appoints a nominating
committee to fill any vacancies on the Consistory and Church
boards.
The Deacons are responsible, in cooperation with the
pastors of the church, for deepening the care giving
ministries of Evangelical Church to its most needy members.
The Deacons recruit volunteers to conduct personal visits,
make telephone calls, write notes, and organize expressions of
care to those in need. They help keep the pastors updated on
particular pastoral concerns encountered in their care giving
ministries. They inform and educates the congregation about
this ministry. The Deacons and the pastors have quarterly
meetings for the purpose of training and exchanging
information.
The Finance Committee or advises the Consistory about the
financial management of the church. This Committee requests
budget recommendations from all boards and committees in order
to prepare the annual budget. It submits the church budget to
the Consistory for action and to the membership of the church
for approval at the January Annual Meeting. This Committee is
responsible for budget items that are not specifically the
responsibility of other boards. This Committee provides for an
annual audit of the financial accounts of the Church, and
additional audits as necessary.
The Membership/Evangelism Board is responsible for events
and programs relating to the membership of the congregation,
including, but not limited to, recruitment of new members and
nurturing the devotion of all members. This board also
welcomes newcomers to the community, coordinates adult
fellowship and establishes services for persons with special
needs.
The Mission Board oversees, promotes, and witnesses about
events and programs relating to the wider mission of the
church, including the work of the Illinois South Conference
and the United Church of Christ as well as other special
mission projects.
The Memorial and Bequest Board accounts for and reports all
moneys and/or other gifts given to the church as memorials or
bequests and acknowledge those gifts to the family and/or
donor. It attempts to determine the intent of such gifts and
makes appropriate recommendations to the Consistory to insure
that all gifts are used as intended. This board also
encourages members and friends of the church to remember the
church with memorials at the time of death and in their wills.
The Pastoral Relations Committee supports and maintains an
open relationship between the ordained ministers and members
of the congregation. It helps the pastors and members of the
church share ideas, hopes, dreams, and interpretations of
mission. It lets the pastors know what people in the church
are thinking. It gives a framework for dealing with conflict
creatively. The Committee consists of the current Consistory
officers and the three most recent past presidents of the
congregation.
The Property Board oversees and cares for the church
buildings and grounds, and addresses its property insurance
needs.
The Stewardship Board is responsible for the ongoing annual
financial stewardship program of the Church.
The Wee Care Day Care/Peppermint Preschool Board oversees the management, sets
policies, and recommends facility improvements for the Wee
Care Day Care Center and Peppermint Preschool. These
facilities seek to provide Christian
daytime care for young children throughout the greater
community.
The Worship Board oversees matters relating to the church’s
services of worship, including ushering, decorations, the
Sacraments, and patterns of worship, as well as shared worship
with other churches in the area.
