Evangelical United Church of Christ is a Christian
Community called to share God's love through Jesus Christ.
The congregation joins with the United Church of Christ in
acknowledging as its sole Head, Jesus Christ, Son of God and
Savior of persons. It acknowledges as kindred in Christ all
who share in this confession. It looks to the Word of God in
the Scriptures, and to the presence and power of the Holy
Spirit, to prosper its creative and redemptive work in the
world. It claims as its own the faith of the historic Church
expressed in the ancient creeds and reclaimed in the basic
insights of the Protestant Reformers. It affirms the
responsibility of the Church in each generation to make this
faith its own. In
accordance with the teaching of our Lord and the practice
prevailing among evangelical Christians, it recognizes two
sacraments: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion.
The rites of confirmation, ordination, Christian marriage, and
burial are recognized.
EvUCC is one of more than 6,000 churches in the United
Church of Christ (UCC) which has 1.8 million members who come
from many different Christian backgrounds
The United Church of Christ is one of the older
denominations in the United States and among the youngest. Our
ancestors were the Pilgrims and Puritans of New England the
German and Swiss who settled the Mississippi River Valley. At
the same time, we are among the youngest because or
predecessor denominations merged in 1957 to become the UCC.
Theologically the UCC is open and diverse. We believe the
Bible is the ultimate rule of faith and practice.
Historically, the UCC has had a deep concern for education
and an insistence dedication to serving the needs of the less
fortunate. We have worked for justice wherever the rights of
God’s people have been threatened.
Each congregation is independent, owns its own building,
calls its own pastors, and sits its own program, while working
together in association with other congregations.
The UCC offers:
Unity: Christians of diverse traditions seeking one
church one earth.
Action: A heritage of working for Christ’s kingdom.
Freedom: Freedom for congregational and individual
decisions under Christ.
